Thankyou for that, I am shocked to find that goes on.
I am beginning to feel a bit naive.

    Reply from walkawayarchie:

A lot of people in those churches don't realize what their church is REALLY doing. Part of it is a lack of communication (on their part) with people from other denominations, and part of it is the mindset.

SOME other denominations know about it- some are starting to talk about the problem and fight it. They're finally getting past the "But it's a CHURCH, they can't be THAT bad!" which is both wrong and a weakness in American psychology. That, by the way, is a quote that I hear on a regular basis, often from people who've been hurt by those churches but don't want to admit to themselves that entire "branches" of "Christianity" are at fault- knowingly and deliberately.

Thanks for replying to my posts I've been reading your other posts and you often refer to your church being steeple jacked. What do you mean? Thanks

    Reply from walkawayarchie:

Steeplejacking is when a Pentecostal/Dominionist/Fundamentalist church deliberately sends people into another (mainstream) church and slowly influences that church into changing from what it used to be to a virtual mirror of the first church. The Assemblies of God are especially bad about it, and they do (or did) deliberately train people to do this. When I was an Assemblies of God cult member, I used to hang out with the students being trained in the local AoG "college" to take over other churches- they were deliberately trained to focus on one denomination or another and try to convert it. They even pointed out the "professors" who were training them, and made it clear that the training was hush-hush (so that their target churches/denominations would not find out), but deliberate and officially sponsored.

The rector of the Episcopal church we used to attend used to have to throw 10-12 people a year out of the church because he would catch them. Usually they'd get carried away and start encouraging people to change churches (referred to as stealing sheep). Eventually they influenced him to the point where he welcomes them and even allows some of them to preach from the pulpit. He may claim to be Episcopalian, but he's pretty much Assemblies now.

What they do- they train their students on how to get into "positions" in the church (like youth director, etc.) Then the person works on transforming the practices and beliefs of the local church towards that which their real affiliation church believes or practices. They cultivate people that they can influence or control.

The word comes from Steeple + Hijacking- Hijacking of a church or Steeplejacking, and the word was coined by a person I know. It happened to the local Episcopal churches and the mainstream churches are starting to realize what's been going on for a long time- and some of them are starting to fight back.

Hello and nice to meet you :)
I noticed that on a post you mentioned a friend who had health problems as a result of being told not to use the bathroom when guests were there. did she develop retention problems? I have had these problems leading to kidney damage for similar reasons. Just wondered if her health probs were the same at all and if they are let her know she's not alone!!

I am fairly new to this site - however I am very impressed with the replies I receive from Walkawayarchie. He has helped me immensely with his very straight forward common sense words of experience and wisdom.
